Welcome to the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG)

This is more than just a website – it’s a window into who we are, what drives us, and the groundbreaking work we are doing at the intersection of science, culture, and community.

Where science meets cultural responsibility

NCIG stands alone in Australia as a national institution dedicated to Indigenous genomic research that is ethical, community-led, and deeply respectful of Country and culture. We are proud custodians of a one-of-a-kind Indigenous genomic collection, and we approach this responsibility not with ownership, but with care, humility, and purpose.

We don’t just analyse data – we generate it. We don’t just follow frameworks – we build new ones, in partnership with Indigenous voices, that set benchmarks for what respectful, sovereign genomic research should look like. Our protocols are shaped through collaboration, guided by trust, and grounded in the lived realities and aspirations of Indigenous communities.

Through transparency, accountability, and mutual respect, we work to ensure that the promise of genomic medicine benefits Indigenous peoples on their terms, in ways that honour their stories, strengths, and sovereignty.

Whether you’re curious, passionate, or ready to walk with, us we invite you to learn more  or contribute to this vital and visionary work.
