Donation from Canberra Medical Society

Friday 20 February 2015

The Canberra Medical Society donated $33,000 to the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics at The JCSMR Director's Christmas Morning Tea on 16 December 2014.  The CMS has a long-standing interest in Indigenous health and in accepting the cheque, the Director of NCIG, Professor Simon Easteal, expressed his gratitude for the support offered.  In 2014, NCIG began a process of consultation with Indigenous communities and families who donated samples now held in the NCIG collection.  The funds donated by the CMS will be used to develop an animation to help researchers continue their conversations with  donors and their communities, helping to explain the basic science, and the potential benefits that may flow from renewed research.
